About Me

Hello! My name is Ileana Delgado and I am an undergraduate at the University of California, Irvine. Currently I am undecided/undeclared but I am interested in pursuing a major in Biomedical engineering. The reason being that it is an engineering discipline that has design concepts to biological science and medicine. Which is something I find fascinating. I hope to one day create medical devices or prosthetics to improve people’s lives. I don’t want people to feel inhibited to do daily activities when they lose a body part due to injury.

On my free time I enjoy riding my bike, going on hikes, and watching movies with my family. I also enjoy to read and write. That’s something I highly encourage people to do frequently as it nourishes your mind and you tend to wander off into a new world of literature. One of my all-time favorite novels are East of Eden written by John Steinbeck and Jane Austen’s romantic fictions, Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. The authors have frequent themes of injustice and fate.

My academic interests are Chemistry, Biological Science, Philosophy and Calculus. However, I am open to other subjects as well. I am keen to learn and gain new knowledge in different subjects. Everything amazes me, even the smallest things. That’s why I like playing trivia and engaging in debates. I am no expert, but I do like to challenge myself. I have a growth mindset and I know Humanities core will be a great learning experience and will give me a better insight of other people’s thoughts.

  Reflection on War

As a fist year, I decided to take Humanities Core. The class itself seemed interesting but what really caught my attention was the theme, WAR. I wondered to myself, why is the theme WAR? Why do people engage in WAR in the first place? The literary works I will be reading throughout this year will give me different perspectives of the justifications of the engagements of WAR, as I will also be giving my understanding of the subject. Beginning with the Epic Poem, The Iliad, I will invite you all to speculate with me.
